AEE Accreditation Council

The AEE Accreditation Council consists of volunteers that are experts in the field of adventure education. Each member of the council brings specific skills to the table and most members on the council serve as liaisons to the accredited programs. Drew began his career with NOLS in 1978 and during that time has been an instructor, a school branch director and since 1996 he has held the position of Risk Management Director. In this role he is responsible for directing all aspects of adventure program risk management systems for NOLS. He is the past chairman and current member of the Wilderness Risk Managers Committee (WRMC) and led five annual conferences on wilderness risk management. He is the leader of the Adventure Program Incident Data Reporting Project and editor of Adventure Program Risk Management Report. He is co-editor of the Association for Experiential Education Manual of Accreditation Standards for Adventure Programs 3rd and 4th Editions and a member of the AEE Accreditation Council. He has presented at an array of professional conferences on risk management issues and provided numerous internal and external program audits, incident reviews, consultations and expert opinions.  He is co-author of Risk Management for Outdoor Leaders:  A Practical Guide for Managing Risk Through Leadership.

Charles R. (Reb) Gregg is an attorney in Houston Texas, active in outdoor recreation law.  Reb has been legal counsel to and represents a number of leading outdoor recreation and education programs and associations in the Country. Reb writes and lectures frequently and serves on the Wilderness Risk Managers Committee, the Accreditation Council of AEE and the Boards of Directors of The Student Conservation Association  and Friends of Big Bend National Park.

Jane is Vice President of Project Adventure, directing all of PA’s Adventure Services. Jane also consults with key clients.  Her area of expertise focuses on working with executives and administrators to generate positive change and to create high-performing teams for both profit and non-profit organizations. She examined her passion for how individuals learn and adapt to change during her graduate studies at Harvard University.  Jane has been an international keynote speaker addressing the issue of effective facilitation to support positive change and team development. She is the lead author of the three book series Adventure Curricula for Physical Education and her newest book Achieving Fitness: An Adventure Activity Guide.  Additional professional affiliations include being on the Board of Directors and Treasurer for the National After School Association; and a member of the Advisory Board for Outdoor Explorations.  Jane’s professional history includes 12 years at the Hurricane Island Outward Bound School as an instructor, course director, and as the chief climber. She has also taught in a public school in VT.

Rita Yerkes, Ed.D., is Dean and Professor, School of Experiential Leadership where she teaches Administrative Practicum in Outdoor Experiences, Outdoor Experiential Education, Outdoor Pursuits Administration and Research Methods.  During her twenty-seven years of experiential education work she has created innovative programs at Towson State University, Miami of Ohio University, State University of New York at Cortland and Aurora University. Her research interests include women and outdoor adventure, therapeutic applications in the outdoors, experiential interdisciplinary expeditions and outdoor program outcomes and assessment.  She is a co-founder of the Coalition of Education in the Outdoors, past president of the Council on Outdoor Education, former chair of the Women's Professional Group in the Association of Experiential Education, past AEE board member, president and volunteer interim executive director, accreditation council chair and member. She has served as an editorial board member of Camping Magazine, ERIC Clearinghouse on Rural Education and Small Schools and the Journal of Experiential Education. She has authored book chapters, numerous journal articles and presentations.

Scott McLarty is the Director of Risk Management, Safety and Health at Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School.  Prior to this, he was the System Coordinator for Off-Site Activities and Outdoor Education at the Calgary Board of Education for seven years. Within the largest school board in Western Canada, his role was to research, develop and maintain a safety management program for school field trips. Scott has a graduate degree in leadership and an undergrad degree in outdoor leadership. He is a professionally certified as a Canadian Risk Manager. Scott's background includes being a wilderness instructor and guide, EMS, search and rescue manager and instructor. He has worked for numerous organizations including Outward Bound both in Canada and the U.S. Scott is also a member of the Safety Committee for the Alpine Club of Canada and has been an Safety audit team member for Outward Bound U.S.A.

Randy Judycki is the Director of The Outdoor Education program at Dunn School in Los Olivos CA. Randy is also a certified American Mountain Guide Association Rock Guide and a certified American Canoe Association Advanced Whitewater Kayak Instructor. Randy has been in the field of outdoor education for 30 years as a field instructor and the Director of the Dunn School program.
